Georgia – Azerbaijan – Iran
As one of the Silk Route branch Azerbaijan remained an important center of trading along the Silk Road starting from, India, China and onward to Georgia via Azerbaijan to Iran. Barda that became the capital center of Azerbaijan in 5th century AD was one the greatest center for trading exchange of arts and crafts throughout the entire Transcaucasia and Middle East. This tour is specially designed to highlight the ancient footprints of old Silk Route.
Day 01: Arrival Tbilisi
After meet & assist at the airport, the guests will be transferred to hotel and check in. We may go for half day city tour of Tbilisi (if arrival is in the morning). Overnight stay in Tbilisi.
Day 02: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Tbilisi
Today we will depart for full day excursion to Mtskheta (UNESCO Heritage Site) by visiting Jvari Monastery (6 century AD), Svetitskhoveli Cathedral built in the 11th century AD and then we drive back to Tbilisi. At Tbilisi we will visit Trinity Cathedral (the second Millennium), Metekhi Church (XIII century), Old Tbilisi, Sulphur Baths, Narikala Fortress (V-IV centuries), Sioni (XIII c.) and Anchiskhati churches (VI century). Overnight stay in hotel at Tbilisi.
Day 03: Tbilisi – Gori – Tbilisi
After breakfast we will depart for Gori (King David, 1089-1125), en route we visit Samtavisi (Georgian Orthodox cathedral of 11th century AD). We will also visit the Joseph Stalin Museum in Gori. Afterwards we will visit Uplistsikhe (the lord’s fortress) that is bulit on a high rocky left bank of Mtkvari River. Overnight stay in hotel at Tbilisi.
Day 04: Tbilisi – Kazbegi – Tbilisi
This is full day excursion for Kazbegi, on the way we will visit Ananuri Castle and Jinvaly water reservoir with picturesque background. We will also walk (one and half hour) to see Gergeti Trinity Church (2170m) with an opportunity to have view of one of the highest glaciers (Mt Kazbegi, 5047m). Afterwards we will drive back to Tbilisi via Gudauri and en route visit a village to see the locals at work making crafts of thick felt, embroidery, iconographic painting etc. Overnight stay in hotel at Tbilisi.
Day 05: Tbilisi – Telavi
Today we will depart for Telavi, en route we visit a wine producing factory of Kakheti region with an opportunity to taste it. We will continue drive to Telavi and visit residence of the King Erekle the II and then Tsinandali Wine cellar and Al. Chavchavadze house museum. Afterwards we will visit Gremi Monastery (the royal citadel, 16 century AD). Later on we will drive to Nekresi Monastery complex. We will take dinner out in a traditional restaurant of Telavi. Overnight stay in hotel at Telavi.
Day 06: Telavi – Gurjaani – Sighnaghi – Sheki
After breakfast we will depart for Sheki (Azerbaijan), en route at Gurjaani we visit a wine cellar and all Saints Church that is the only two domed church in Georgia. We will continue drive to Sighnaghi and visit Bodbe monastery of Saint Nino. After immigration formalities at Lagodekhi Pass (Georgian – Azerbaijani border) we will continue to Sheki (an ancient place of Azerbaijan). Over here we will visit the palace of Sheki Khan and Sheki History Museum. Overnight stay in hotel at Sheki.
Day 07: Sheki – Gabala
Today we will visit Sheki Khan’s Palace and Kish Albanian Church and then proceed to Gabala city, on arriavel transfer to hotel and check in. Later on we will go for Gabala Chairlift tour and then visit Nohur Lake. Overnight stay in hotel at Gabala.
Day 08: Gabala – Lahij – Shemakha – Baku
Today we will depart for Baku, en route we visit Lahij to see ancient crafts. We will also visit Shemakha (Diri Baba tomb and Yeddi Gumbez). In the afternoon we will drive back to Baku and on arrival visit the remaining important sites of Baku like Maiden Tower, Caravansaray, Shirvanshahs’s Palace etc. Overnight stay in hotel at Baku.
Day 09: Baku – Absheron Peninsula Gobustan – Baku
This is full day excursion to Gobastan (The Region of Gobu) that is known for its archeological monuments. We will drive Southwest of Baku along the Caspian shore to the volcanic desert where rocks are covered with carvings, standing amidst the scattered stones and mountains. There are more than 6000 carvings that were carved by the artists of that Paleolithic period. Overnight stay at hotel in Baku.
Day 10: Baku – Sareyn (Iran)
Today we will depart for Sareyn via Heyran and after passing the border we reach Ardebil where we visit Sheikh Safi-Uddin Ardebili mausoleum complex with a dome of Allah Allah. Then we will visit the traditional bazaar of Ardabil and then we continue drive to the lake Shurabil. Afterwards we proceed to Sareyn (a mountain resort surrounded with beautiful landscapes). Overnight stay in hotel at Sareyn.
Day 11: Sareyn – De Resht – Ramsar
After breakfast we will depart for Ramsar, en route visit the village of Rasht Masule (yellow clay buildings), this millennial village resembles an anthropological and architectural museum. Afterwards we will drive to Ramsar and on arrival we go for sightseeing tour of Ramsar. Overnight stay in hotel at Ramsar.
Day 12: Ramsar – Kazvin – Tehran
Today we depart for Tehran, en route we take city tour of Qazvin (once the capital of Iran) by visiting Qazvin-mosque Jama, Shrine of Hussein Shahrezy, the theological school Heidari, the Darby Kushka (the old entrance gate of the city), Ali Gapu (Chehel Setun Qazvin). We will continue driving with a stop to magnificent view of the Dam Karaca. Then we will continue to Tehran, on arrival transfer to hotel and check in. Overnight stay in hotel at Tehran.
Day 13: Tehran
Our sightseeing tour of Tehran will start by visiting Nature Bridge and Azadi Tower, Golestan palace complex, the UNESCO world heritage site. We will also visit Tehran Grand Bazaar and National Museum. We will continue visit with a walk in National Garden and “Si Tir” street and then National Jewelry Museum and then back to hotel. Overnight stay in hotel at Tehran.
Day 14: Tehran – Flight Out
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tehran airport for flight back home or vice versa. End of Silk Route Caravan Tour and end of our tourism services.
