Baku – Telavi – Sighnaghi – Tbilisi – Gudauri – Kutaisi – Mestia
This tour is specially designed for the one who want to see all three countries of Caucasus. This would highlight the most of cultural, historical and archaeological sites Azerbaijan and Goergia. Azerbaijan follows people a soft form of Islam whereas the people of Georgia follow orthodox form of Christianity that makes a wonderful combination for holiday makers. From the hustling bustling city of Baku to the rough stone houses of mountainous Khinalug, from hospitality and old history, strong traditions and stronger faith to the ancient and picturesque Georgia you will have variety of landscapes, cultural, mosques, churches and the monasteries in just one tour.
Day 01: Arrival Baku
After meeting and greeting at Baku airport you will be transferred to hotel and check in – we would go for Baku sightseeing tour (subject to arrival time – there are many sites to visit and we would try as many possible). Overnight stay in hotel at Baku.
Day 02: Baku
After breakfast we will start sightseeing tour of Baku by visiting Shehidler Khiyabany (martyr’s lane) with a beautiful view overlooking Baku’s coastline. We will also visit Nizami Street, Fountain Square, Nizami Ganjavi monument, National Museum and move to Icheri-Sheher (old part of the city). We will also visit Maiden’s Tower, Shirvanshahs’ Palace, Caravanserai, and market square. Dinner out in traditional Azeri restaurant. Overnight stay in hotel at Baku.
Day 03: Baku – Khinalug – Baku
Today we depart for full day excursion to Khinalug driving through Red Village (Krasnaya Sloboda), the biggest settlement (5000 years old) of Mountain Jews in Azerbaijan. This is a scenic drive to picturesque Khinalug at an altitude of 2,000 m. Later on we will drive back to Baku. Overnight stay in hotel at Baku.
Day 04: Baku – Absheron Peninsula – Gobustan – Baku
After breakfast we will go for full day excursion to Absheron Peninsula and Gobustan. We will visit Gobustan National Park, Petroglyphs Museum (petroglyphs of 10,000 BC) and then Continue to the mud volcanoes in Gobustan Reserve. Afterwards we will drive to Ateshgah – temple of fire worshippers in Surakhany village. Zoroastrians of India used to travel to worship fire coming out of the earth. Also drive to Yanardag Mountain to witness natural gas burning since thousands of years. Overnight stay in hotel at Baku.
Day 05: Baku – Lahij – Kish – Sheki
Today we will depart for Sheki, en route visit Diri Baba Mausoleum at Maraza, historical Juma Mosque at Shemakha, Yeddi Gumbez Mausoleum, and the Shirvan Shah’s family grave yard. We will continue to Lahij (ancient village, 5 AC) famous for its medieval water supply and sewerage systems, also famous for traditional jewelry, carpets, copperware, pottery, iron tools, and daggers etc. At Kish we will visit the first Albanian church in Caucasus region (1st AD). Overnight stay in hotel at Sheki.
Day 06: Sheki – Kvareli – Gremi – Telavi
First of all we will visit Shekhi Medieval Fortress, Shekhi Khan Palace and then continue for Telavi (cross of Georgia border). Here in Georgia we will en route stop at Winery Khareba located in the tunnel originally built for military purposes but now being used to store Kakheti’s finest wines – opportunity to taste wine. Afterwards we continue to Gremi architectural complex, 16th century royal residence and the capital of Kakheti Kingdom and then we reach Telavi, the capital of Kakheti region. Overnight stay in hotel at Telavi (Georgia).
Day 07: Telavi – Tsinandali – Shumi – Bodbe – Sighnaghi
Today we will depart for Sighnagi, en route we explore Kakheti by visiting Tsinandali (used to be residence of dukes of Georgia, with beautiful English garden, museum, and wine cellar of prince Chavchavadze (a famous figure and poet of 19th century). Afterwards we will visit Then Shumi winery and then continue to Bodbe Convent and Sighnaghi Royal Town (surrounded by defensive walls with 23 towers. In the afternoon). Overnight stay in hotel at Sighnaghi.
Day 08: Sighnaghi – David Gareja – Tbilisi
After breakfast we will leave for Tbilisi, en route visit semi-desert area near Gareja and then David Gareja Monastery and the Lavra Cave Monastery (of 6th century AD). The Lavra Monastery is a complex of caves and churches with courtyards. We will walk 2 hours up to Udabno (famous for its wall-paintings dating from the end of the 12th century) and enjoy the view of Azerbaijan from Georgian side (scenes from the Bible like “The Last Supper” and “The Exaltation of the Cross”). Overnight stay in hotel at Tbilisi.
Day 09: Tbilisi
After breakfast we will go for city sightseeing tour of Tbilisi by visiting Trinity Cathedral (the second Millennium), Metekhi Church (XIII century), Old Tbilisi, Sulphur Baths, Narikala Fortress (V-IV centuries), Sioni (XIII c.) and Anchiskhati churches (VI century). We will also ride cable car to Narikala Fortress to enjoy breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Overnight stay in hotel at Tbilisi.
Day 10: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Ananuri – Kazbegi – Gudauri
Today we will depart for Gudauri, en route visit Mtskheta (the cultural and religious center of Georgia) and also visit Jvari (true architectural masterpiece of the early Medieval Period built on a hilltop). We will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral where the robe of Christ is being kept. Afterwards we will continue to Ananuri Complex (old residence of Argveti Dukes). At Kazbegi (a small village with view of Mountain Kazbek (5033m) we will visit Gergeti Holy Trinity Church located at an altitude of 2170 and enjoy breathtaking views to Mt Kazbegi. Overnight stay in hotel at Gudauri.
Day 11: Gudauri – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Kutaisi
After breakfast we will depart for Kutaisi, en route visit the Stalin Museum (more than 60,000 artifacts) at Gori and also see the cave town Uplistsikhe (of Hellenistic Period – house of Pagan and Christian architecture). Afterwards we will continue to Kutaisi via Rikoti Pass (the capital city of Western Georgia). En route we will also visit Ubisa Monastery (9th century) with another stop at the village Shrosha to see Georgian pottery. Overnight stay in hotel at Kutaisi.
Day 12: Kutaisi – Prometheus Cave – Mestia
Today we will depart for Mestia, en route visit Prometheus Cave (1.5km walk) and enjoy magnificent views of stalactites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls, underground rivers and lakes along the cave. The underground light system is impressive with lights of all the colors of the rainbow. Afterwards we will continue to Svaneti, the birthplace of the Svans that is a unique ethnic group distinguished by having old culture and traditions. Overnight stay in hotel at Mestia.
Day 13: Mestia – Ushguli – Mestia
This is full day excursion to Mestia, visit Ushguli village (2200m, the highest village of Europe). The Ushguli architectural complex is enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage. Ushguli is inhabited with 70 families (about 250 people), enriched with Lamaria Church complex (12th century) and with picturesque view of the Mount Shkhara from here. Return to Mestia. Overnight stay in hotel at Mestia.
Day 14: Mestia – Zugdidi – Kutaisi
Today we will depart for Kutaisi, en route we visit the Mestia Ethnographic Museum, with an original Svan house “machubi” and “koshki” tower. From here we will drive back to Zugdidipax to visit the Dadiani Palace (Western Georgia’s royal family) and then proceed to Kutaisi. Overnight stay in hotel at Kutaisi.
Day 15: Kutaisi – Gelati – Motsameta – Tbilisi
After breakfast we will first go for sightseeing tour of Kutaisi by visiting Bagrati Cathedral (11th century), also visit the Gelati Academy (built by King David in the 12th century). Then we will continue to Motsameta Monastery and to enjoy breath-taking views over the Rioni river gorge. Afterwards we will proceed to Tbilisi. Overnight stay in hotel at Tbilisi.
Day 16: Tbilisi – Flight Out
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tbilisi airport for flight back home or vice versa. End of Exclusive Azerbaijan and Georgia tour and end of our tourism services.
